The USDA has published a 2023 revision of its helpful Plant Hardiness Map. Many areas in the U.S. saw changes in their zone assignments. The Pacific Northwest had relatively fewer alterations.
As lavender growers, we’re often told that the genus survives in USDA zones 5-9. However, it is obvious to people who have tried a wide variety for lavenders in the Northwest that not all species and varieties perform equally well throughout the region. Data collection from LNW members on cultivar performance in their specific regions would be a useful project, producing detailed information that would benefit those considering new plantings.
