LAVENDER & HOLIDAY CRAFT PROJECTS

Share a lasting gift of lavender.

Lavender wreaths make beautiful decor for any season.  This mixed wreath (shown above) was made using the white/pink cultivar L. angustifolia ‘Melissa,’ fresh cedar branches, and faux berries (purchased from a craft store).  To assemble the wreath, use an 8” grapevine wreath base, 12 sprigs of cedar, 12 bunches of lavender, and 5 clusters of faux berries. Employ the wire-wrap method and place a cedar sprig underneath each lavender bunch prior to wrapping to the wreath base.  Finish the wreath by using a hot glue gun to secure the berries to the wreath.

Hint: Visit the Lavender Northwest MARKETPLACE to find regional farms and businesses that offer a variety of dried lavender buds and bundles that can be used for a wide variety of craft projects.

LAVENDER HOLIDAY HANGING ORNAMENTS

A decorative, low-cost gift for the lavender lover, is an ornament filled with your own lavender concoction (dried culinary buds, bath salts, etc.). Ornaments are available in various shapes and sizes and most often are made from glass or plastic.  Ornaments may also be adorned with mini bows and ribbons or other festive embellishments.  Check your local craft stores for fillable ornaments.

LAVANDIN DRYER SACHET

Many people are looking for natural, nontoxic solutions for their homes and personal products. One popular lavender product is the lavender dryer sachet (or “bag”). It doesn’t require a lot of materials: just dried lavender or lavandin  buds and a muslin bag.  You could use an inner heat-sealing tea bag (or an extra muslin bag) to prevent buds from escaping in your dryer.

HOLIDAY LAVENDER CENTERPIECE

Keep it simple: this centerpiece uses lavender cultivar L. angustifolia ‘Melissa’ and fresh holly sprigs.  A red holiday candle finishes off the festive look.  To make the centerpiece, use a 6” grapevine wreath. Select twelve bunches of the lavender (six with a holly sprig and six without).  Apply the wire-wrap method to complete the centerpiece.
